Is This An Ant Or not?

I thought this was an ant, but it’s actually a kind of wasp, called a mutillid, or “velvet ant.” Thanks to Dale Chumbley for helping me figure this one out. One of my sons saw it first. It has a thick red “fur” all over its body. I tried to get a decent photo of it for about 10 minutes. He was an elusive little bug.
