Trochilidae

You can imagine the joy my daughters expressed when they realized a hummingbird (trochilidae) had built a nest and laid eggs about 2 meters from their bedroom window. The nest, built from pieces of carpet and cloth she has found around our neighborhood, is high up in a tree next to the house. I can’t find it when looking for it from below, but it’s clearly visible at eye level for my daughters. They have a window seat for nature at work. It’s a beautiful little creature, leaving the nest every so often to go get food and then returning to sit still for longer than I’ve ever seen a hummingbird rest. This photo was taken through the screen window. That yellow spot on her head is so delicate in real life. And so bright up close. I’m thankful for a long lens right now.
