A couple of shots into the sunset last night I noticed a small piece of dirt on my lens from my morning shooting on a dusty road. So, without thinking, I quickly wiped the surface of my lens with my bare finger, gently, and went to focus on the next photo. The image above is what resulted. The oil from my finger created the flares you see. The image below is the very next shot, cleaning the lens in a more “appropriate” way.
I’m thinking I might give that finger smudge thing a try again. What do you think?

Who would have thought that touching the lens could make a great image. I’d try it again but may not want to make it a habit or it just might ruin that one great shot when you forget to clean the lens.
I’m thinking perhaps a clear cover lens and a little vaseline. 🙂
