Near 2 pm on Saturday, June 17, a brush fire broke out on the South side of Castaic Lake. By 5 pm the fire had charred more than 500 acres and the smoke plume rose hundreds of feet into the air. As sunset approached, just a few hours later, the smoke plume had dissipated. What remained was a smoke ring that spread out over the entire Santa Clarita Valley.

As the sunset approached, the smoke ring spread and the sun lit it up… first in yellow, then orange, then red. Several of us who were together for a family game night broke from the party and drove up to Pacific Crest Park to watch the show. It was worth it.
