Lately, I’ve been shooting a good deal of 360° photos using the newly branded Madventure 360 camera. One of the “problems” with shooting 360° photos using a “single shot” 360° camera is that it is difficult to control the location of the stitching. Since you’re capturing full spherical content, in the moment, you simply want to shoot and edit later. The simple solution to this problem is to copy the image and place it side by side in Photoshop, allowing you to reposition the center point.

The original image was 6912 x 3456 pixels (shown at the top of the above image). The steps are simple. First, copy the whole image into memory while in Photoshop. The increase the canvas size to 13824 x 3456, shifting the pixels all to the left. Next, paste the image into a new layer and move it all the way to the right (shown at the bottom of the above image). The edges will align exactly, allowing you to reframe the shot as you wish.

In the final black and white version, the Arco De La Rua Agusta is now at the center of the photo. As it should be since it is the highlight of the Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, Portugal. For the curious, the top of the arch is a sculpture by Célestin Anatole Calmels – Glory crowning Genius and Valour. The other sculptures on the monument are by Vítor Bastos, representing the historical figures of Viriatus, Vasco da Gama, the Marquis of Pombal and Nuno Álvares Pereira.
