While in Hornopirén, Chile, I wasn’t able to get away from the cabin to get a shot of the amazing night sky with some of the amazing mountains in the foreground, or even Volcan Hornopirén. This was our only clear night, and I didn’t plan very well. I was hoping for several nights in a row, for the obvious reason that being in a place this far away from human light pollution is a rare thing for me. But the real reason for the hope is that I simply need more practice.

I took more than 60 shots. Only about 20 were even worth keeping privately. Only a couple were even close to being worth publishing in public. None of them were “great.” In 2019, I’m committed to taking a class or finding a mentor to help me understand how to get my settings right. There, I said it. 🙂
