“What do you want to do tomorrow? I assume you want to go for a sunrise hike in the morning?” Yes.

Well, that was the plan. I had a specific hike in mind when I went to bed last night. But apparently life had other plans for me and the alarm I thought I set for 4:30am did not go off. I awoke at 5:10 with only 30 minutes until the sun was going to come up here in Santa Clarita. There was not enough time to get to the spot I had planned on. So instead, I drove out to Vasquez Canyon Road and parked on the side of the road, near the entrance to an old ranch and waited… for this moment. I’ve actually wanted to get a shot like this for some time. This spot just says “Old West” to me. It makes me wonder what the whole area must have looked like 100 years ago. I’m glad my plans didn’t come to fruition.

Happy Father’s Day!
