Sunrise Over The Lake Tahoe Basin

After a fitful night of sleep in the back seat of our Ford Excursion, I wake up at 4:15AM and started driving from Leavitt Meadow back to Sacramento, hoping to make it in time for the Individual 400M finals at the USATF Jr. Olympic National Championships. My 15 year old son and I decided to join the annual camping trip for one night during a break in the action for our family.

As I drove through the Monitor Pass, the sun was casting brilliant colors all over the sky. Each turn was a photo opportunity lost to a winding road with no way to pull over. It was both beautiful and frustrating. 🙂 It wasn’t until after we made the turn onto Highway 50 toward Sacramento that a spot for a photo combined with a way to pull over, so I grabbed the opportunity. What you see above is the result.
