We had no idea what we were walking toward as we headed out onto frozen Lake Louise. There was a beaten path on what, in the summer, would be a turquoise blue body of water, and so we set off to follow it. I mean how dangerous could it be if a couple was taking their wedding photos on the ice?

We just started walking across the water. Personally, I don’t get a lot of chances to walk across a frozen lake, so the destination wasn’t really the point. The journey was unique and the scenery, backlit by the setting sun, was overwhelming.

As we got about halfway across, we could see the blue of the frozen Louise Falls. Suddenly there was a goal and a commitment. The water frozen in the falls was so clean and clear, it literally glowed aqua blue.

The closer we got, the bluer the frozen waterfall became. It’s another of the many things that simply must be seen in person. The photos here on this page were some of the hardest I’ve ever had to edit. The camera picked up a blue cast over everything that was not there in real life. I’ve tried to do it justice.

The entire hike was spectacular. Unforgettable.

One day I hope to do a number of the hikes in this wonderful hiking guide of Lake Louise!
