The King family was in town, visiting from Manly Beach, NSW, Australia. David had been to Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park on a previous trip but thought it would be the perfect location for the rest of his family to get a taste of Los Angeles that most tourists won’t get. The iconic rock formations that were formed by rapid erosion during uplift about 25 million years ago, and later exposed by activity along the San Andreas Fault, are the attraction to this beautiful park. We climbed on those like most do, but we also took a 4-mile hike up along the Pacific Crest Trail and down into the canyon that separates the two major rock formations.  It was a good day. 🙂

Along the way, David asked if I ever did anything in black and white. I do, but I certainly don’t do enough of it, so I thought I’d post these. The high contract of the midday sun certainly lends itself to a black and white treatment. These were processed in Silver EFX Pro 2 using the graduated ND filters.
