Shooting someone’s face and getting it “right” is so much harder than nailing a landscape. At least that’s my opinion. This is my cousin, Josh. I asked him to pose for this photo, which can be intimidating for people. So I gave him something other than the camera to look at, my wife. People are generally uncomfortable with a camera pointed at their face, and generally comfortable looking at someone they know and trust. I knew she would bring a natural smile to his face.

It worked. And the settings were right.
