The play continued on at the basketball courts at Venice Beach, California, even as the smoke from the Sand Fire in Santa Clarita, almost 40 miles away, spread out over the city of Los Angeles. As the sun began to go low in the sky over the ocean, the color of the cloud of smoke became an eery yellow-orange. It was both ominous and beautiful.
