The time waiting to head to the track is a calm time. The boys competing are specifically told to conserve energy and their compliance creates a very special zone of peacefulness that often does not exist in a family our size. Still, there was a camera sitting on the table next to the hotel bed and light outside. I couldn’t resist leaving the stillness to go find a different kind of relaxation, focusing on the little things and taking in their beauty. This is me waiting.
