“Jeff, you need to get your camera right now,” is one of my favorite sounds. Along with the variation, “Dad, you need to get your camera and come see this!” It’s the sound of someone in my house observing something they know I’ll enjoy trying to photograph. It could be a cloud or one of the dogs being ridiculous, but usually, it’s a sunset I’m about to miss. This morning, however, it was this Mantis on the hood of our white car. It let me get closer than I thought it would. It also sat still as I fumbled with the manual focus required to get a decent shot with a 10x diopter. It was the perfect little model.
