The Elevador de Santa Justa in Lisbon, Portugal used to provide the valuable service of eliminating the steep slog up Carmo Hill from the Baixa district. Today, however, it is mostly a tourist attraction. It’s a working piece of wrought-iron neo-gothic art, really.
