The large Nike sign placed at turn three screamed, “Finish On Empty.” The runners could not have missed it as they hit that spot on every lap of the 2022 Arcadia Invitational Boys 3200M. And as you can see from the image above, they left nothing in their tanks as the entire field put on a show that I will not soon forget. Last year’s epic battle between Colin Sahlman and Lex Young was, in most people’s minds, the greatest high school 3200M race ever run. Last night eclipsed it as 23 runners broke the 9-minute barrier. Simply amazing.
The top two results were the same, but this year both Sahlman (8:34.99) and Young (8:35.72) finished ahead of the previous Arcadia Meet Record held by Lex’s brother, Nico Young.
