The UNESCO Villa Ocampo Observatory

We were treated to a visit to the UNESCO Villa Ocampo Observatory on our final Sunday in Buenos Aires. It was our second UNESCO site on this trip, with the other being Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. One of the things we did while in Buenos Aires was have a personal meal with each member of the Tangilla team in Argentina. Each one was special, frankly. We shared meals and stories of our lives and simply got to know each other as humans.

One of the last meals was organized for us by Gonzalo Britez for a Sunday afternoon, and he insisted it be a surprise. He also insisted I bring my camera and that he hoped we would enjoy it. We did. It was a special afternoon and a special place. Thank you, Gonza!

According to the UNESCO site, “the UNESCO Villa Ocampo Observatory, faithful to the intellectual and ethical legacy of Victoria Ocampo, and in line with UNESCO’s mandate, has the mission to reaffirm the relationship between culture and sustainable development as a contribution to the United Nations 2030 Agenda.” Although the tour was held entirely in Spanish, I got enough to understand that Victoria Ocampo was a woman Rocky would have loved. She was brash and outspoken; she broke down societal and cultural barriers and was a gifted writer. And Villa Ocampo is a site dedicated to keeping the legacy of her contributions alive.

Despite a gloriously sunny day filled with color, I decided to present the photos in black and white. The site seemed to scream for it. I hope you enjoy them!
