Southern Caracara

As I waited for one of the most glorious sunrises I’ve ever witnessed, a Southern Caracara flew up on a branch near me. No other human was at Punto Panorámico – Circuito Chico on this morning. And it sat there posing long enough for me to move closer and into better light. I was thrilled. I captured the more common Chimango Caracara on my previous San Carlos de Bariloche trip. They were everywhere. But the Southern Crested Caracara is more rare.

What is it they say about luck? Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. I got lucky. And that glorious sunrise I mentioned above? I’m saving that for later. 🙂
