In front of me was the sunrise in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, on April 27, 2025. Behind me was Rocky, who, at that moment (shown below), had no idea that a mosquito in Nairobi or Mombasa, Kenya, had given her Dengue Fever. This was not the sunrise experience she hoped for.

Yesterday, I said she didn’t join me for the sunrise because she was jet-lagged, having only returned from Kenya on Wednesday afternoon, and we were already in Playa del Carmen by Friday afternoon. I wish it had been jet lag. I am typing this in room 107 at Hospiten Riviera Maya. The doctors here have been excellent, and she is hooked up to an IV to ensure she remains hydrated. I’m hoping that when she sees these photos, she will finally be able to enjoy the sunrise she fought so hard to see.

Hoping that Rocky had a quick recovery and that Dengue fever is not as serious as I have always thought it was (I probably just made up the seriousness of it.). So, Rocky, get well soon. Being sick is just no fun, no matter where you are. Prayers and hugs.
