Track, swimming, and cycling if everyone’s bikes were exactly the same, are pure sport in my mind. It is you against a clock really. When you win, there is little doubt that you truly won. And even if you lose your race, you can beat yourself. Time, as much as your human opponent is the real enemy. A second place personal record brings no shame and often a great deal of satisfaction.
