When I originally saw this unopened flower, it looked like a torch to me. I thought of the torch on the Statue of Liberty to be exact. In reality, it doesn’t look a whole lot like the torch designed to be a symbol of enlightenment. But I have to say, I’ll take any reminder of our nation’s higher values I can get right now. Even a very small one.
