Track is back at Saugus High School. There was no 2020 season for my son, Zachariah, and his teammates. Frankly, until a few weeks ago, I wasn’t convinced there would be a season in 2021. But yesterday, Saugus High School hosted its first track meet since the end of the 2019 season, a dual meet against Castaic High School. Castaic is a new school. They have only freshman and sophomore students, so just JV truly competed. However, the Varsity kids at Saugus did get in a “mock meet.”
Masks were optional for the competitors once they hit the starting line. Some decided to keep them on. Only two adult spectators were allowed per athlete, and masks were obviously required. But we were there, and we were able to see these athletes compete again. I’ll take it. Any of it. All of it. I congratulate them all for persevering through severely limited practice time and unprecedented obstacles. Track is back at Saugus High School.
