I wasn’t sure I even wanted to attempt to make a composite of these dueling hurdlers. I love making these images, but I normally focus on a single athlete. Typically that means a hurdler has to be well in the lead, or it’s a high jumper, long jumper, or pole vaulter. It cuts down on the complexity in the shadows on sunny days like this one. With two runners, Tyler Burns (foreground) and Koos Maddock (background), it meant there was going to be significant shadow overlap. I’m happy I went ahead and gave it a shot. I think the result was worth the effort.
