In any other year, Ashley Callahan from Rancho Bernardo High would be hogging the national spotlight in pole vaulting news. She recently cleared 14′ 6″ at the CIF San Diego Section Division I championships. At that meet she asked for the bar to be raised to 14′ 9 ¼”, a height that would have moved her past the current national record holder, Paige Sommers. The photo of Ashley above was taken earlier this year at the Arcadia Invitational, where she finished second to Paige. It should be noted, I don’t typically take shots for pole vault action composites from this angle. I think a side view illustrates the discipline best. But I did like how this turned out.
