The 2021 Chuck Petersen Open was my son Zachariah’s first track meet with Minnesota State University. It was therefore also my first time getting to attend and shoot photos. Unfortunately, Zachariah injured his hamstring in his second race of the day. We’re hoping it’s minor and he’s back in action soon and able to contribute on a team that’s stacked on the sprint side of the equation. The Mavericks dominated the sprints, which is par for the course for this group of athletes.
It was a joy to watch my son race, a joy to watch this team, and a joy to be shooting photos at a track meet again. This was only my second indoor meet and the long lens I typically use outside just wasn’t fast enough for this indoor light. So all of the photos you see here were taken with the Sony 50mm f1.8 shooting wide open. Here’s to creative constraints. 🙂

Amazing photos! I absolutely love the quality. Hope there are more to come. Thank you so much.
Thank you, Shaheed! I will try to make it to as many meets as my schedule will allow. However, getting to Santa Clarita, CA to Mankato, MN is not the simplest of commutes. 🙂
