The 2026 Leap Fest provided the first long jump composites of this 2026 track and field season. As I mentioned when I wrote about the first one, the Mater Dei High School long jump pits weren’t very conducive to composite captures. The photo above was shot from as close to 90° as I could get on Saturday. And that required me to move a volunteer out of their position. I don’t really like doing that. They’ve got a job to do as well.
Later in the day, I decided to give a different angle a shot. The photo below was the first effort, and I didn’t like how it turned out. Based on the Sony A1’s frame rate when shooting RAW, I typically use every other image in a high-speed burst. But as you will see below, when you’re at the wrong angle, that makes for a pretty crowded image. There’s not enough space between the athletes’ different positions in the jump. I didn’t like how it turned out.

When I showed it to Rocky, she agreed. So I decided to remove two images, instead of one, between each photo used to build the long jump composites from the Leap Fest. I hope you’ll agree, these look much better from this angle.

And if you’d like to see over 400 other images captured during the Leap Fest, you can find them here: 2026 Leap Fest – Jeff Turner. Rocky’s photos will be published in the upcoming days, and as always, 100% of the money we make from photo sales is donated to Southern CA Youth Track & Field programs. Enjoy!
