The color happened on the other side of the sunset in Costa Mujeres on February 13, 2026. That’s not uncommon. That’s because even though the sun has set for us, it may still be hitting high-altitude clouds on the opposite side of the sky. By the time sunlight travels through the thick layer of atmosphere at sunset, blue light is mostly scattered out. What survives is red, orange, and pink. So the clouds are being illuminated by pre-filtered light. They’re reflecting already reddened sunlight.
