moon_tree

The sun hadn’t gone anywhere. Blue sky, full daylight, the kind of late afternoon where everything still has its color. And there was the moon, hanging in it like it had shown up early for something. I almost missed it. You stop looking up when the sky is bright. The moon belongs to night, or that’s the deal we’ve made with it, so during the day it sits there mostly unwatched, pale and patient, waiting for the room to dim before anyone gives it attention.
