Track meets always have their special moments. This dual meet last night at Ventura High School saw the Boy’s Varsity Pole Vault all alone as the final event of the evening, with the Ventura sunset as a backdrop. Add to that the full attention and support of every athlete from both teams, each cheering their competitors on and you have, perhaps, a perfect moment of sports. The photo above is of the eventual winner, Derek Pekar, of Ventura High School. The photo below is the top Saugus finisher, Gary Bojorquez.

Track encourages pure competition and incredible sportsmanship, simply because every competitor knows the real battle is between themselves and a clock, a distance, or a height. The optics of these final moments were good in every sense.
