From the balcony of our apartment in Lisbon, Portugal we could see into the backyard of a home that appeared to be in the midst of renovation. Much to our delight, an archeological excavation was taking place. Our best guess is that this must have been a family gravesite. It was a real treat to get to see them uncover the past in this most ancient part of Lisbon, the Alfama District.
