Saturdays have become my long hike days. We are fortunate that our neighborhood backs up against the eastern tip of the Los Padres National Forest. So I leave from my house on foot and walk to the Haskell Canyon Open Space entering through a gravel service road that leads to miles and miles of fire road trails cut along the ridges and through the open spaces. Yesterday’s hike was just under 12 miles. Two weeks ago it was 18 miles. These hikes take anywhere from 3.5 to 5.5 hours and I rarely see another human, unless they’re on a bike. It’s the perfect time to get in large chunks of audiobooks. I think a 20+ mile hike is in order soon. 8 hours alone will do me good. 🙂 [ location ]
