As I often do, I set a creative constraint for the photos taken on our fabulous weekend trip to Paso Robles with our neighbors, Phil and Ericka. The constraint would be shooting with nothing but the new 85mm prime lens and to try not to stray from the wide-open setting at f1.4. As you can see above, the lens is best when it’s shooting portraits and it most certainly helps to have a beautiful subject like Ericka. But it turned out to be quite a lot of fun to play with the shallow depth of field in a number of situations. So… here is a smattering of images taken on the trip. For the curious, I used the Modern 9 image profile in Lightroom at 200% to get this color effect, then increased blacks and whites for some contrast.
