If you’ve never heard of Bella Witt, then you’re probably not really following high school track and field in Southern California. When I was invited to visit Calabasas High School to take some photos of this very talented young athlete and her team members, I jumped at the chance. Why? Because there was really no outdoor track season last year in Southern California. COVID-19 restrictions ended the season before it began for my son, Zachariah, and other gifted athletes like him and Bella. So if I can help to raise awareness of the special talent that is waiting to be released on the track this year, count me in.
And Bella Witt is the real deal. She is likely the odds on favorite to be California State Champion in the 100M hurdles this year and based on what I saw in this very early practice, she’s focused and ready, and Bella will be hard to beat. Officially, this class of 2021 star is ranked #1 in California and #3 in the USA in the 100m hurdles and is also highly ranked in the 300M hurdles and in the 100M and 200M events. I’m delighted I was able to capture a bunch of photos for her and her team yesterday. But I’ll be even more delighted if I can capture a few photos of Bella actually competing this year. I’ve got my fingers crossed.
