Kylee Davis explodes into the air as if she has been shot from a canon. And she has exploded into the California State long jump lead as well. I’ve photographed hundreds of elite long jumpers in recent years and few abandon themselves to flight the way Kylee does. It is a thing of true beauty.

And while it’s clear she fouled on the jump above, the mark was closer to 21 feet than her current state leading mark of 20′ 0.5″. Her furthest legal jump at yesterday’s Tri-meet at Hart High School between Hart, Valencia and Golden Valley would still be a state-leading mark at 19′ 11.5″. I would not be surprised if she flew past 21′ sometime soon this season. Kylee Davis is exploding.
