I saw the light hitting this portion of Turner Road over my cousin Derek’s shoulder. We were sitting under a popup tent talking when the scene caught my eye. I had taken the good camera back to our car, but decided this light was too good to pass up. So I walked up the hollow to where our car was parked to get it and capture the shot above.
The shot above is exactly how I saw it in my head. I love this curve. This is the curve that leads from what was once my Mammaw and Pappaw’s home to my cousin’s house. Kim and Lec live in the same house my Uncle Glenn built on this land many, many decades ago. I know this curve like the back of my hand. I can walk it in pitch-black darkness. And have.
And on this day, the curve also marked the entrance to the Turner Family Reunion. A parking sign marked the spot, directing cars through the yard down the hollow. I love family reunions here. We’ve held them at other locations, but nothing beats the feeling of being here, on this land, on Turner Road, with family and friends. This place and the people who gather here every other year to celebrate the legacy of Russell and Evelyn Turner are special. Truly special.

I love your hollow picture. It sort of reminds me of the picture you took of the attendees and the tent during the derecho picnic.
The grass is glowing! So cool! Love your eye for light.
Love you! Thank you for all the work you put into this year’s event!
Thank you, Aunt Jane. It was so great to see you. Thank you for the book you shared!
I’m in a 1990’s mood, so thought I’d leave a comment. 😉
Great shots! I’m glad you went back for the good camera.
Very good seeing y’all!
LOL. Yes, comments on blog posts is very old school. Thanks for humoring me. 🙂 Great to see you, as always!
For the record, my emoji was meant to be an old school ASCII sideways winkie used ironically. Oh well.
