I had no idea that I was photographing the Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge dates to 1987, when it began as a way to offset lowland habitat lost to construction at Bonneville Dam and to give migrating and resident wildlife more room.
I didn’t even know it was a place. We were driving back from the Cape Horn Viewpoint when Racquel suddenly made a U-turn. I wasn’t even paying attention to the road. She noticed the hanging fog and knew I’d enjoy photographing it. She was right. Beauty surrounds us.
